How did you meet Mestre Camisa? Tell us a little about the town.

My first encounter with kameez occurred somewhere in '84, when I arrived in São Paulo. The first impression was a sense that this person cares about every detail in capoeira. And even then, even though I was still a child, I awoke in me an incredible interest because in it I saw an extraordinary man who became my friend and a great Mestre. He is interested in capoeira to all, and not only in ABADA-Capoeira, but in capoeira all over the world, because capoeira for him - everything. We all know that today Mestre Camisa in capoeira - is Mestre Bimba (Mestre Bimba) in the past, and therefore Camisa ABADA-Capoeira represent all our people.

Which countries have you engaged in the development of Capoeira? What do you think about capoeira abroad?

When I was 25, I was engaged in the development of capoeira in different countries. I was in Africa, in some provinces of Angola, in different cities and states of the USA and European countries, and I believe that capoeira there is excellent ... and I see that the level of capoeira abroad very grown up.

What do you think about the development of capoeira?

Everything in the world evolves, humanity is also a concern, and I think it makes no sense to make fire the Stone Age ways. I believe that the technique Pastinha (Pastinha), Traira (Traíra), Kobrin Verde (Cobrinha Verde), Marais (Maré), - it's a great capoeira, which still is the basis of any technology. As well as the equipment of Mestre Bimba. But capoeira changed. I think that all the time, and if Mestre Bimba was here now, he would have undoubtedly developed because it was a very clever. And now - I see a man, whose name Mestre Camisa, who tries to bring capoeira to perfection and give it the appearance that it should have.

What advice would you give to people who have never engaged in capoeira and want to start exercising?

Explore, look good group of capoeira. Choose your own Mestre, because he did not choose you, and you have it. The student, before entering the group should know more about it, see the class, to work out, go to the events that the group holds. It is necessary to look at the most a coach to make sure he's a good teacher. Just sometimes people confuse good capoeirista with someone who is a good teacher. Anyone who begins by selecting a good coach, a good capoeirista. Therefore it is very important to carefully choose Mestre, mestrando, professor or instructor.

As a novice to choose a capoeiristas Mestre?

First of all, it should just feel spiritual closeness, because Mestre - a second father. Parents - do not choose, but his second father, Mestre or professor, you choose yourself. I learned many professors and directions of capoeira, and today I am happy that I was able to find what you need is me.

What is capoeira in your life?

Capoeira - it's all in my life, my existence, and the existence of a permanent condition. Capoeira has led me to where I myself would never have made it. She raised me on the stage, showed different countries and meet great people. I feel that today it is - the basic mechanism of my life. It's like a wheelchair for quadriplegic. Lishis I capoeira, and it would be equivalent to saying that I can not walk and crawl all his life on his stomach. I realize that capoeira - absolutely unavoidable part of my life and my thoughts.

What would you like to say capoeiristas?

I'll tell them to exercise, learn capoeira, carried it in himself, and not only ABADA-Capoeira, but also of all the groups in the world. I would say leave the pride, ignorance and put to himself the fact that you - the capoeirista. Carry a capoeira, invest in it with all your heart, so that we can carry this banner together. No matter what you're a group, instead of having to fight or quarrel at birth, put in work on the other, show their development.

From 1985 to 1986, Cobra trained monthly in Rio de Janeiro. He spent a week at the “Associação” in Botafogo, where he trained daily from 4-6 PM with Mestre Camisa and 7-10 PM with Mestre Caio before returning to São Paulo. In 1987, Cobra decided to move to Rio de Janeiro permanently. Cobra informed Mestre Carlão about his decision. In response, Mestre Carlão asked Mestre Camisa to welcome Cobra, saying he was a good man to have by his side. And so Camisa gave Cobra a small room at the Associação, the capoeira school where Camisa once taught.“That little room was like a five star hotel; a place where I can live and train…it was the best,” Cobra would recall. He began to train consistently with Mestre Camisa and soon took on organizing events and social projects. As Mestre Camisa developed ABADÁ-Capoeira in the late 1980s, Cobra stood by his side, and he has ever since. As the ABADÁ organization grew, so did Mestre Cobra’s popularity as one of the most technical capoeiristas in Rio.Mestre Cobra has not stopped giving workshops and seminars throughout the world. In 1993 he received the rank of Mestrando, and in 2005 he was recognized as a Mestre. Mestre Cobra has mentored hundreds of students and has been an essential piece in the growth of ABADÁ-Capoeira.
